BASIC INTRODUCTION TO THE AMDECK
AM Steelwork Petroleum Tank Services has gained vast experience with regards to Internal Floating Roof installation,
maintenance and repairs over the past 18 years. Being active in the petroleum industry for more than 30 years, we
were in the position to pass our extensive knowledge and observations on to our associate manufacturer. This resulted
in an Internal Floating Roof that was improved not only in accordance with the latest standards, but also to
accommodate market requirements. AM Steelwork Petroleum Tank Services proudly markets and installs this Internal
Floating Roof under the AMDECK banner.
THE AMDECK NOT ONLY MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF API 650, BUT
SUPERSEDES IT. SOME EXAMPLES FOLLOW:
•
Compared to other product designs available in the market, the AMDECK consists of solid extruded profiles with
greater strength throughout.
•
50% more individual pontoons that are smaller sized, as apposed to the norm of less, but bigger pontoons,
contributes to increased flotation reliability and the extended lifespan of the IFR. Should any of the pontoons start
leaking, the risk of sagging is almost eliminated due to the fact that there are far more individual pontoons. This
distinguishes AMDECK from existing IFR’s.
•
The even distribution of pontoons on the peripheral ring reduces friction between the tank shell and the
peripheral seal, and increases seal contact throughout operation. This ensures that buoyancy is even to allow
tighter sealing at the deck movement change over.
•
All AMDECK sheets are coated and suited for coastal conditions.
•
The AMDECK is only installed by fully trained AM Steelwork Petroleum Tank Services staff assuring superior
installation quality.
•
We have experienced in the field that inexperienced installers have been the cause of many deck failures.
•
Apart from the AMDECK’s superior design, it remains extremely price competitive.
RE-ENGINEERED AMDECK IFR
CONVENTIONAL IFR
•
10 meter diameter IFR - 54 Pontoons.
•
Individual pontoon failure poses far
lower risk to IFR flotation
•
10 meter diameter IFR - 16 Pontoons.
•
IFR flotation drastically affected by
individual pontoon failure.
•
Conventional IFR designs stagnated whilst AMDECK is a re-engineered design.
•
Larger quantity of smaller pontoons reduces risk of individual pontoon failure.
•
Increased flotation reliability and extended lifespan.
•
Additional flotation around peripheral ensures level buoyancy and tighter sealing.
•
Solid extruded profiles for greater strength throughout.
•
More equally spread legs for even landing.
•
Manufactured in South Africa.
BASIS :
•
A blend of expanded LDPE (Low density Polyethylene) and EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate).
•
Martinal® (Base: Aluminium Hydroxide) has been added to improve fire retardant properties.
POLYETHELENE :
•
LDPE has excellent chemical resistance, meaning that it is not attacked by strong acids or
strong bases suitable for use with (Hydrocarbons) Petroleum, Oil, Methane, Butane, Propane
and Octane.
EVA :
•
EVA is a blend of Polyethylene and Vinyl Acetate that improves the elastomeric properties of
the product.
•
(Softness and Flexibility) suitable for use with (Hydrocarbons) Petroleum, Oil, Methane,
Butane, Propane and Octane.
MARTINAL® :
•
Martinal® flame retardant is an Aluminium Hydroxide based product that has low smoke
characteristics and good thermal stability. This product is suitable for electrical and electronic
applications
GENERAL PROPERTIES AND APPLICATIONS :
•
Closed cell sponge. The closed cell construction makes it ideal in sealing environments up to a
temperature of 70 degrees Celsius.
